My Second Game Jam

Last Edited: Sun Aug 17 04:18:25 UTC 2025

So I recently finished my second(!) game jam. You can play it here: https://pkingstonxyz.itch.io/8402.

I didn't want to spend a lot of time blogging about it, but this is a little discussion of how it went

  1. I didn't start working for a few days of the jam
  2. I was able to re-use a lot of the guts of my base 2048 code
  3. I was also able to re-use the button code
  4. Making puzzle levels is really quite difficult
  5. I was able to ask my friend Lee for a soundtrack

And what I'll change moving forward/takeaways:

  1. Outsourcing composition was a HUGE win. In fact, I've been spending a lot of time thinking about some cyberpunk/sci-fi visual pieces and making more visual art with blender. I'd love to hand lee a 3 minute animation/animatic and say "hey will you make a track for this?" That would be really fun I think.
  2. I got #3 for gameplay/fun, but 7th overall
  3. Adding graphical effects, particles, sauce in general goes a long way for giving the appearance of polish
  4. A basic change like a font can completely change a game

So yeah. Literally anything game jam #3. Got 7th, improvement from 9th. First here we come.
